Matt Van is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer from the Quad Cities. Although he is actively pursuing music full-time, he is also finishing his last year in the Doctor of Pharmacy program at Drake University (Des Moines, IA).
In August of 2015, Matt released his debut EP – Something Tangible. This project included five original songs, some of which he had written years prior. His debut single, "I Don't Wanna," was later featured in the Iowa Music Project's statewide songwriting showcase as one of two "Listeners' Choice" selections.
About one year later, Matt released his second project – Please, Respond – in October 2016. Although it was nearly as concise with eight songs clocking in just under 30 minutes, this album was much more cohesive when compared to Something Tangible.
Stylistically, Matt's music continues to evolve as he experiments with blending both synthetic and natural sounds. His newest single – Daisy – serves as a great example of this. In this track, his vocals are accompanied by several lo-fi electronic sounds, synths, and even an organically-recorded saxophone line (by Evan White).
In the past year, Matt has appeared on KCCI (Des Moines, IA) and KWQC TV-6 (Quad City Area) local news stations. He has also recorded a studio session with Daytrotter and Paste Magazine (daytrotter.com). Most recently, his collaboration with Mr FijiWiji, Direct, and Holly Drummond – "Tomorrow" – was released by Monstercat (record label).
