About Matt

Matt Van is a singer-songwriter, lyricist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer hailing from a small Midwestern region called The Quad Cities. In addition to being a full-time musician, he is also a Doctor of Pharmacy.

In August 2015, Matt released his debut EP entitled Something Tangible. His first single, "I Don't Wanna," was later featured in the Iowa Music Project's statewide songwriting showcase as one of two "Listeners' Choice" selections. In October of 2016, during his final year of pharmacy school at Drake University, Matt followed up with his debut album entitled Please, Respond.

Sonically, Matt continues to draw from his organic roots as he experiments with blending both acoustic and synthetic sounds. This has become apparent in his most recent EP, Lungs, as well as in his latest singles and collaborative features. Lyrically, Matt consistently delivers genuinely crafted stories, laced with melancholy and unfiltered emotion, that lend themselves greatly to introspective listeners.

In addition to appearing on several local news outlets near his hometown, Matt has also made an online appearance with Daytrotter/Paste Magazine after recording a live studio session at Horseshack in Davenport, Iowa. In 2018, he ventured overseas for a month-long solo tour in Germany, Belgium, and parts of the UK. Currently, Matt continues to write and record new music as he focuses on an upcoming solo project.

A unique sonic blend of both acoustic and electronic elements, featuring production appearances by Direct and Mr FijiWiji. This project was inspired by the desperation felt when trapped within the grasp of unrequited love.
